Central Bohemia is an area of rich and varied scenic beauties. The vast lowlands of the Elbe Basin, the hills of Stredoceska pahorkatina with the spurs of Ceskomoravska vrchovina, Rakovnicka pahorkatina, or Krivoklatska vrchovina and the foothills of Dzban, merge with the mountain ranges of Brdy, the region of Kokorin expose their typically bizarre sandstone formations. The streams of the Berounka, Litavka and Sazava, as well as the Moldau river in the southern section of the region, or the Jizera often wind through deep ravines, lined with woods. There are narrow canyons, creating unforgettable natural scenery.
The area around Krivoklat is both a protected landscape area and a listed biosphere reserve of UNESCO. Not far away, there is another protected area of Czech Karst, where you can visit the largest karst formation in the Czech Republic with a vast system of Koneprusy Caves.
