Not many regions of Bohemia can pride themselves on so much fresh and intact nature as the Bohemian Forest. It is the largest wooded area in Central Europe, with forests covering 80% of its area. It consists of two mountain ranges, Sumava and the Bohemian Forest, and spreads out along the southern border with Germany and with Austria. The mountains has elevation between 600 - 1400 m above see level. There are several lakes of glacial originm(Certovo, Cerne) and peat bogs in the Bohemian Forest. For crosscountry skiing, there are 313 km of prepared routes. To best-known ski centres belongs ski area Zadov and Spicak. South Bohemia is a picturesque region of ponds, forests and peat bogs, little medieval towns, village churches and old estates. Tourists are attracted also by the harmony of the local nature and architecture. The region is a highly south-after touring destination not only for its scenic beauties, but also for a number of historical monuments, spa resorts and conditions favourable for cycling and water sports.
