(Harrachov, Rokytnice nad Jizerou, Vitkovice v Krkonosich)
Harrachov
One of the most important resorts in the Giant Mountains is situated in the western part of the mountains, directly on the border with Poland. It lies in a hollow along the River Mumlava and its affluents Milnice, Kamenice and Bila voda. From the south it is bounded by steep slope of Certova hora (1020 m. a. s.), from the north by less steeper slopes of Silesian ridge (Mrtvy vrch – 1059m, Jaksin – 1115m). The very important saddle is Novosvetsky průsmyk (885 m. a. s.), where is border-crossing between Harrachov and Poland – Jakuszyce, international road E-65 and railway to Jeleni hory (out of order) go through it.
Rokytnice nad Jizerou
Rokytnice nad Jizerou is a recreation, tourist and sport centre of the western Giant Mountains. The centre is situated in a marvellous valley, the domain is the Studenov range and the Kotel range that is as high as 1434 m above sea level. There are great cross-country and hiking routes in the surroundings. There are 24 tows, a cableway, and winter hiking routes leading up to the ranges of surrounding hills and mountains. You can reach mountains, as well as the Elbe spring, the Hute Waterfall, historic settlements, or other well known recreation centres at any time. Rokytnice city includes also three close by villages known as Frantiskov, Vilemov and Studenov.
Vitkovice v Krkonosich
The village location is suitable for travels by car who can reach it from the main road Harrachov-Vrchlabi. Turn on the intersection near Jilemnice and continue on the street Nu. 286 in the direction "Horni Misecky".
Vitkovice is a mountain village which lies in the valley of the mountain stream Jizerka, 683 m above sea level.
The skiing centre provides good conditions for beginners as well as experienced skiers. There are two ski lifts in the centre of Vikovice - Aldrov, 700 m and 1000 m long, overcoming the elevation of 132 m. The pistes are fitted with snow-guns. Night skiing is also available. It offers suitable conditions for cross-country skiing. Cross-country trails for experienced skiers are located on the ridge between Horni Misecky and Predni Zaly. The Hucul farm offers horse-riding services incl. mountain trips on horsebacks for experienced riders and sleigh rides in winter.
